Max Credit Override Policy:  Students at Purdue may register for up to 18 credits without prior approval; however, in some instances students may desire to register for up to 21 credits.  In those cases, the rule below will apply.

  • Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher to receive advisor approval for a max credit override for more than eighteen credits, excluding required ROTC courses. Automatic approval above 18 credits is not guaranteed.

Academic Notice Policy:  Students on academic notice have a semester GPA below 2.0 in the preceding semester. To facilitate a return to good academic standing, the following rule will apply.

  • Advisors will recommend that students on academic notice register for no more than sixteen credit hours of coursework, excluding required ROTC courses.

Study Abroad Course Policy: Effective Fall 2025

  • All CE Core and technical elective courses (blue and yellow on flowchart) must be taken for a letter grade.
  • Gen Ed courses (purple on flowchart) may be taken Pass/No Pass if the student desires.
  • Minor Courses may be taken Pass/No Pass at the discretion of the minor department.
  • Courses must be approved prior to student enrollment.

Transfer Credit Approval Policy and Process

  • Students first must discuss with their academic advisor if desiring to take a course from another institution for transfer credit.
  • The student must submit the request for the course in writing to the advisor (via email) with a screen shot of the course equivalency from the Purdue equivalency database. This must be done PRIOR to registering for the alternate course.
  • Once the advisor has received/and reviewed this request, if approved, the advisor will respond to the email with approval, and the advisor will document the approval in a BoilerConnect note.
  • This course approval will be valid for the current academic year only (Fall, Spring and Summer Sessions) after it is approved.

Senior Design

Senior Design (CE 49800) is a one-semester course that must be taken in a student's final semester. Approval for Senior Design will only be granted after review of the student's academic record to ensure the student meets requirements.
