Purdue's Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering graduate programs again among nation's best
For the fourth consecutive year, the graduate programs in Purdue University's Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering are in the top ten in U.S. News & World Report

Purdue University's Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) continues to excel nationally, with both electrical engineering and computer engineering graduate programs ranked No. 9 in the latest U.S. News & World Report graduate school rankings released Tuesday (April 8). Purdue ECE remains among the elite programs nationwide, reaffirming its status as a leader in engineering education and research.
Overall, Purdue's College of Engineering rose to No. 5 nationally, tying with Caltech and further establishing Purdue as the top-ranked engineering college within the 18-member Big Ten conference. This year's rankings placed ten Purdue engineering disciplines within the nation's top 10 out of more than 220 evaluated institutions.
Highlighting Purdue's dominance in engineering disciplines:
- Agricultural and Biological Engineering retained its top position, ranked No. 1 nationally for the fifth consecutive year.
- Industrial Engineering achieved its highest ranking in two decades at No. 3.
- Aeronautics and Astronautics, Civil Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering (among colleges without medical schools) each placed at No. 5.
- Mechanical Engineering climbed to No. 7, marking its best ranking in 17 years.
- Environmental Engineering and Nuclear Engineering both achieved a No. 10 ranking.
- Materials Engineering held steady at No. 12, while Chemical Engineering moved up two places to No. 14.
The U.S. News rankings are based on peer assessments and statistical indicators measuring faculty quality, research output, student performance, and postgraduate outcomes, derived from surveys conducted in late 2024 and early 2025.
