IE's Denny Yu and Purdue Envision Center Host STEMmersion Event with Dayton Regional STEM School Partnership

Ms. Williams, Mr. Hertenstein, and Professor Yu co-designed a STEMmersion experience centered on robot-interactions for 2023, leveraging their individual expertise in STEM education, robotics, and human factors engineering.
This year the students were able to visit Purdue's new Gateway Facility and take part in demonstrations in spaces such as the Geoffrey and Katherine Cubitt Human Integration and Simulation Lab, which included an interactive demonstration of the Move4D Scanner System.
The students were able to interact with sensors such as an EEG, a motion capture suit and an eye tracking device. The students played a game in which the students tried to find objects while wearing the glasses that contained the eye tracking sensor. Students were able to volunteer to wear the EEG, first in silence, and then they were told to imagine something. Students were able to observe the subsequent change in brainwaves. To view the capabilities of the motion capture technology a student volunteered to wear the suit and move around. Students were then able to view the motion on a 3d plane.

In addition to the experiences in the Gateway facility and the Envision Center, students were able to try out the DaVinci Surgical Robot, which is located in Grissom Hall.
The students were also able to spend time in the Envision Center viewing and participating in demonstrations of the virtual simulation technology that the center has to offer.
