“Past and Present Nuclear Materials Solutions: Westinghouse Churchill Site”

Abstract: Westinghouse Electric Company is a leader in commercial nuclear power, responsible for the design and service of >60% of the domestic nuclear fleet and is a leader in advanced and small modular/microreactors. For surveillance testing of the legacy fleet and development of innovative nuclear solutions, Westinghouse leverages the Westinghouse Churchill Site’s (WCS) hot cell capabilities. The presentation provides an overview of capabilities at WCS, some challenges associated with handling radiological equipment, and past projects highlighting WCS contributions to long-term operation of existing reactors and development of more robust nuclear materials.

Biography: Dr. Clement is a Materials Staff Engineer at Westinghouse Electric Company working in the Research and Development Hot Cell Facility at Churchill, PA. A recent graduate of Purdue University, Dr. Clement’s research areas include irradiation effects on materials, advanced characterization techniques, and corrosion of nuclear relevant materials. When not at work, he enjoys spending time outdoors and with his wife and children.
