Finding Internship/Research Placements

GEARE students have several resources available to help with their search for both domestic and international internship/research opportunities. Students should utilize an all-out approach to find the best opportunity.

  1. The Office of Professional Practice maintains relationships with several global companies who have agreed to help place GEARE students with internships domestically and internationally. The Office of Professional Practice will forward resumes to GEARE partner companies to help initiate interviews for GEARE students.
  2. Networking - Speak with family, friends, professors, neighbors, upperclassmen, other GEARE students, TA’s, or alumni for connections in your field. Utilize social media sites like Facebook and LinkedIn and to help find Purdue alumni in various parts of the world. After landing a domestic internship, network with co-workers and supervisors to inquire about potential international opportunities with your employer.
  3. Utilize campus resources like the Center for Career Opportunities. Meet with career counselors to discuss opportunities and set up a MyCCO account to access a wide variety of search tools.
  4. Attend career fairs such as Industrial Roundtable and Professional Practice Days.
  5. Utilize company websites. Larger companies will list opportunities for domestic and international internships on their websites, and prefer students to apply through their websites.
  6. Utilize Internship Databases and placement services
  7. Consider research, public sector, or non-profit internships/experiences
