Importing .psts to Outlook Server
Many users will have .psts for their outlook archive. This was because Outlook had a small datacap. Now that the datacap on the Outlook server is much larger, best practice is to import the .psts onto the server. Below are instructions on how to do so:
Locating the .pst
PSTs can be located by navigating here: Outlook, File, Account Settings, Account settings, Data Files
Once in the data files tab, it will show the location of the user's archive(s).
Moving the .pst
Copy the .pst and paste it to the user's c:\temp.
Creating the archive folder
Navigate to the user's mail page in Outlook. Right click on the user's mailbox and select new folder. Name the folder something like "archive import"
Importing the .pst
1. click on the newly created archive folder so that it's 'highlighted'
2. click File and in the blue area on the left, click Open & Export.
3. Click on Import/Export
4. Select Import from another program or file and then hit next
5. Select Outlook Data File (.pst) and then hit next
6. Click browse and select the .pst that you copied in c:\temp
7. Click allow duplicates to be created
8. Select import items into the current folder
9. Click finish
10. Unmap the old .pst
11. Let outlook do its thing. I would say wait a week. you can delete the .pst in c:\temp afterward.
